About the Collection
For SS 2013, rag & bone looked to the great outdoors, starting with the idea of the Dakar rally before exploring military safari and Bedouin culture. "I watched the Dakar rally as a kid, which is how we got into desert motor sport,' explains rag & bone's Marcus Wainwright. "We were interested in the contrast between modern elements - like block colors, leather and technical modern fabrics - juxtaposed with these floaty white and striped pieces inspired by Bedouin dress. The desert theme evolved into looking at what the British Army wore in North Africa."A men's striped shirt is reinterpreted in fluid shapes. The motorsport influence manifests itself in cropped and boyfriend-style motorcycle leather jackets and pants. Military-inspired pieces are elevated with cotton quilting and oversized pockets. The masculine bent is tempered with ultra-feminine flourishes such as delicate sheer pieces, lace inserts, flirty A-line shapes and organza petticoats.
Proportions span from cropped and body-fitting to oversized. Volume is also introduced in exaggerated details in pockets and sleeves. rag & bone's philosophy of embracing utilitarian design and incorporating unexpected detailing is realized in dresses which can be unzipped to create two separate pieces. Details include perforation, leather padding and deconstructed tailoring. rag & bone acknowledges its British roots with this season's print - a window pane check favored by Edward, Duke of Windsor. The color palette for SS 2013 is saturated, featuring bold blues and greens and spiced coral along with chinchilla. Crisp white is also predominant running in multiple styles, from a trench coat and leather short to a quilted skirt and perforated smoking shirt. The pilot bag continues in spring colors. A new medium sized pilot and clutch are also introduced. Sunglasses are a collaboration with Oakley.
