About the Collection
For Men's SS13, rag & bone mines a love of military wear, taking it to the desert, and motocross forms the sports undertone to the collection. "The desert military theme was derived from looking at old photos of army officers who had to withstand intense heat but still look smart. We were also inspired by cool vintage shots of Ernest Hemingway," explains Marcus Wainwright. "Motocross then came into play as not only has it British origins, it's one of the most adventurous sports out there, but what we really wanted to do was explore these two distinctive inspiration points and give them a modern, downtown context," he adds. Traditional blazers and parkas are deconstructed and created in durable, light-as-a-feather fabrications, such as lightweight compact cotton and paperweight nylon. Form follows function in the details - cotton shirts are perforated
with lazer cuts, allowing for breathability. The utilitarian bent continues throughout with waterproof coating, mesh inserts and seam sealing. Traditional desert camo is played with to create a vivid digi-camo interference print while military symbols are riffed upon for SS 13's graphic signature tees. Motocross inspires the leather jacket and the collection's color-block pieces, contrast striped tees and graphic numbered font jerseys. Spiced coral reference motocross colors while faded reds and oranges are desert inspired, emulating the sun hitting the sand. The desert military influence continues with fatigue green and sand hues. Silhouettes are diverse, as volume pieces like billowing parkas sit amidst structured motocross jackets. The house's signature tailored suiting is also present along with army-issued inspired wide-leg shorts.
