The Opening of the New Whitney

This Friday, May 1st, the Whitney Museum of American Art opens at its new home on Gansevoort Street in New York's Meatpacking District. The building, designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano, spans 220,000 square feet over nine floors. 

With a range of exhibitions already planned, the first to debut will be America is Hard to See, a retrospective focusing on American art from the 1900s to present day drawn from the museum's permanent collection. 

The Whitney will also celebrate its opening on Saturday, May 2nd with a free block party on Gansevoort Street.
